An ongoing set of studies in material, light and restraint.
Overview
A running series of self-directed 3D illustrations. Each one starts from a single constraint, a palette, a material, a typographic form, and stops as soon as it has answered the question it set. They are where the techniques that later show up in client work get tested.
The challenge
Personal work has no brief, which is the point and also the difficulty. Without a constraint these pieces sprawl; the discipline is deciding what each one is actually about and cutting everything that is not serving it.
The approach
Each piece is built around one idea: "ARTIFICIAL" is about the tension between a soft sphere and hard machined brass; "BELIEVE" is a study in near-monochrome teal with glass as the only value break; the banded forms are an experiment in reading depth from a single wrapped surface.
Typographic studies
Type as a physical object, lit as product.

Banded forms

The result
A body of work that doubles as a material and lighting library for commissioned projects.
